Week 30 Stash Report

Well, I was in Reno all week visiting quilt shops and trying to stay cool despite the triple digit temps! I really was pretty well behaved as you can see by the figures below. I may have been a bit distracted with the early arrival of our twin granddaughters. I hope to be back up on the wagon this week though as we are finally home at least for another week until we leave for Hawaii to visit our new grands!!

They're breathing on their own!

Well, the girls were taken off the C-Pap machines and they are doing well on their own! Hopefully they will be able to come home in another day or two! I cannot get over how much hair they have . . .

Our Newest Granddaughters have arrived!

Yesterday, Olivia had a growth scan and for the first time during her pregnancy the girls had an appreciable difference in size. This was a concern for the Doctor's because the twins share a placenta. So with this information, the doctors decided to deliver the girls at 5pm on Wednesday, but this morning Olivia's water broke around 4am and everything was set in motion for an immediate delivery at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, 1319 Punahou Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96826! Clelia Antoinette is approximately 4lbs 10oz and Abigail Olivia is a whopping 5lbs 1oz! Both girls are currently in the NICU since they've experienced some breathing difficulties, but we anticipate they'll be off the machines in a day or two. Congratulations Nick & Olivia - we cannot wait for our flight to Hawaii . . .

We went to the Claim Jumper Restaurant for Supper tonight. What I ate for dinner is irrelevant, I had for dessert the Chocolate Motherlode Cake. This cake is freakin huge - it's 6 (yes, SIX) layers! It's packed inside a doggie bag the size of a shoebox!

My favorite shop was the Windy Moon Quilt Shop! Man, they had a lot of fabric, but it was NOT crowded like some shops with a lot of inventory. And their staff was really nice too! I am going back again tomorrow since once again I ran out of money and needed to seek a withdrawal from my personal ATM (my husband) . . .

Week 29 Stash Report

Well, I am posting from the road in Reno, Nevada where we are staying at the Grand Sierra Resort. It is so freakin' hot here - I cannot even believe it. Last week we were in San Diego and I loved it. The weather, scenery, and number of quilt shops were awesome! I think I could live there and be very happy! I think I visited 6 or 7 shops in all and there were still a lot more that I didn't go to as I kept running out of money! So needless to say, this weeks report is heading the wrong way . . .

Week 28 Stash Report

Nothing new to report this week as I have been busy preparing for our trip tomorrow morning to the West Coast (San Diego)! After the trip, I am sure I will have something to report (like fabric added).

Gettin ready to hit the road . . .

Monday we are leaving for a week in San Diego. From there, we go to Reno for another week. Then we will go home for a week and then we'll be off to Hawaii for a month or two . . .

I am going crazy trying to prepare for the first trip. I have just now begun to wonder what I am going to take quilting wise to occupy my time while my husband is in school! Of course, I am going to have access to a rental car and I'm taking the GPS so I can scout out quilt shops, but what am I going to do in the evenings? I am leaning towards taking fabric strips from my stash to sub cut them into various sizes of squares . . . anyone else have any other ideas out there? Pictured above are some 1.5 inch squares that I've been swapping with other quilters. I stack and store the squares in a pizza box!

Sophia is marked . . .

Sophia found the ONE marker I was unable to find this morning - all I was able to locate was the cap! Thank goodness they are the Crayola Non-Toxic Washable Markers.

Design Wall Monday!

Well, here's what's on my design wall this week, Tulip Blocks! I am trying to figure out what to do with them as far as setting. I also have 4 duplicate blocks that I may just use on the back of the quilt. These blocks are from an online swap. They are made from the depression era fabrics - those prints are one of my many favorites! Anyone have any ideas as to how to set them - please leave a comment or send me an email - I'd love to hear your ideas!

Week 27 Stashbusting Report

Well, I feel like I am making a little more progress as far as fabric used is concerned . . . I used a total of 4 yards from 3 different fabrics to back a quilt, and boy, is that back going to be ugly (the picture doesn't do it justice, trust me) but I'm not worried because I plan on using it as a ground cover for picnics or at the beach. Currently, 95% of the fabrics in my stash are not big pieces, so trying to create yardage for backing without purchasing some is a challenge! I did have to purchase yardage for borders for a quilt and also fabric for an online swap, but it came in, and then I counted it out (with the exception of 1 yard as I bought a little extra . . .)

This is my granddaughter Sophia who fell asleep in her highchair while I was loading the quilt on the longarm!

They're out to get me . . .

My grandchildren - I think they are trying to drive me crazy (not that it's too far away). Last night I was trying to get ready to go to Friday Night Quilter's Gone Wild and Madison is at the back door yelling for me that there was a delivery . . .

Yes, it is a dead squirrel!

As if I am not spooked enough, I freaked out when I went into the living room to find the life size Barbie standing in the middle of the floor.

It's Thursday - UFO Challenge

Well, I am participating again this week in Sue's UFO Challenge . . .



Well, the UFO I pulled out last Thursday is done, done, done! Dillon, the child I made this for, is probably in grade school now, but it's done!




Now the dilemma is which one do I work on next:

• Pineberry Trail (needs quilting + binding)


• Judy L's Stash Project No 1 (needs quilting + binding)


• Fiddlesticks (needs an outer border, quilting + binding)


• Judy L's Stash Project No 2 (needs an outer border, quilting + binding)

Oh, the choices - well I can pretty much rule Fiddlesticks out because I have to purchase border fabric for that one, but I have what I need to finish the other 3 - hey, who says I only need to do one this week? Wooo Hoooo!!!
